Why Cover the 1992 Developers Competition?
Reasons why the competition is news worthy and notable.
Impact: 200 of the best developers in the world. 1,500
people in attendance. The results of the
competition will affect corporate buying
decisions and strategies. The panel discussion
between Borland, Computer Associates, and
Microsoft will aid those in selecting which
xBASE product to pursue. The participation of
the Cobol companies and other mini computer
based development tools will address platform
selection.
Technology: The competition provides insight into the
people and technologies behind our fast growing
industry. "Dying" technologies will be given
a fresh face. For instance, the Cobol
companies have formed a loose alliance to show
the xBASE and PC world that Cobol is not dead.
Watch for Cobol developers with the same
development capabilities as the fastest PC
tools.
Human Interest: Key industry figures will be competing for
their companies. It will draw out their
competitive natures. The personalities of
these brains is worth coverage. Watch for
David vs. Goliath stories! This event allows
an small software developer to compete head on
with the largest computer firms in the world,
and win!
Questions: This is a forum to suggest answers to the
troublesome questions posed by the industry
lately. What OS/2 will do? Windows versus
OS/2? What is the best development
environment? Impact of GUI interfaces? What
can really be done with these tools?
Events: Friday - Panel discussion between VP level
management from Borland, Computer Associates,
Microsoft and Cobol. Saturday - Competition,
Awards Dinner. Sunday - client visit and tour.
The Clincher: The clincher is the application itself. I
can't tell you what it is but. . . it will be
photogenic, made for TV, fun, funny, new,
worthwhile, interesting, and needed.
